NORFOLK, Neb. -- There was a potentially dangerous situation in Norfolk after a semi-trailer caught on fire.

A semi-trailer caught on fire at the Hampton Inn parking lot in southwest Norfolk Monday afternoon.

Heavy smoke could be seen coming from the area.

Norfolk Fire officials were called to the scene on S. 20th Street shortly before 2:30 p.m.

Initial crews encountered fire on the outside of the trailer, along with smoke and fire inside of the trailer, according to Norfolk Fire Lt. Brock Soderberg.

According to Soderberg, it took approximately 15 firefighters and 4 rigs about 10 minutes to control the fire and another 60 minutes to overhaul the trailer.

Soderberg said there were no injuries reported and the driver wasn't near the trailer when the blaze started.

The semi-truck and trailer is estimated to be worth approximately $210,000 and sustained $150,000 of damage to the structure, Soderberg said. He also noted that an additional $20,000 of damage to the contents inside of the trailer was sustained.

The semi-truck is owned by Reinhart Transportation LLC.

The Norfolk Fire Division was assisted by NPD and Norfolk Street Division.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
