LINCOLN - A Lincoln man is in jail for first-degree assault on an officer after he reached for an officer’s gun leading to a nearly two-minute struggle.

Police say on August 3rd, officers responded to a suicidal person.

When officers arrived, they decided that 28-year-old Joseph Guenther would be taken to a medical facility for an evaluation.

As officers tried to handcuff Guenther, he began grabbing at the other officer’s weapon.

Police say a struggle ensued with the firearm halfway out of the holster.

Eventually, the man was able to be handcuffed without injury.

He was released from a hospital on August 12th and taken to jail for first-degree assault on an officer and resisting arrest.
