Severe storms threaten Weld County, Colo. and Kimball County, Neb. with damaging hail and winds

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The National Weather Service issued separate severe thunderstorm warnings Monday evening for northeastern Colorado and the Nebraska Panhandle, with both storms carrying the risk of large hail and strong winds.
In Weld County, Colo., a storm was located at 5:52 p.m. MDT about 9 miles southwest of Keota — or 31 miles northwest of Fort Morgan — moving northeast at 15 mph. The storm is capable of producing half-dollar-size hail and 60 mph wind gusts. Areas affected include Keota, Pawnee Buttes and Buckingham.
Meanwhile, a separate warning was issued for southwestern Kimball County, Neb., where a severe thunderstorm was spotted at 5:56 p.m. MDT about 8 miles northeast of Panorama Point, or 16 miles southwest of Kimball, moving east at 20 mph. Radar indicated the storm had a history of producing ping pong ball size hail and could deliver 60 mph wind gusts.
Both storms pose a threat to people, animals, vehicles and property. Residents are urged to move indoors immediately, seek shelter away from windows, and remain alert for rapidly changing weather conditions.
