LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - One person has been hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after a kitchen fire in southwest Lincoln Thursday morning, according to Lincoln Fire and Rescue.

Battalion Chief Jeremy Gegg told our partners at 10/11 News the Nebraska State Patrol called in the fire around 3:40 in the morning. One of their troopers also responded to the scene.

Gegg says firefighters arrived and found one person down in the front yard of the home near 17th and Sunny Hill Road. He says crews worked to get inside the home and put out the flames, while also helping the victim outside.

Gegg stated that the fire was in the kitchen and quickly contained. The person, who was the only resident inside the home, was eventually placed on a stretcher and into an ambulance, before being transported to a nearby hospital. That person has life-threatening injuries, Gegg added. He also said two dogs died in the fire, while a third is expected to be okay.

Lincoln Police also responded to the scene. Gegg says a member of law enforcement was treated by paramedics but not hospitalized. It’s unclear if it was an officer with LPD or an NSP trooper.

The cause of the fire and the amount of damage done is under investigation.
