One of Omaha’s top tourist attractions is kicking off the city’s Holiday Lights Festival.

With the downtown Gene Leahy Mall getting a major facelift for the next few years the nearby Old Market is now illuminating its iconic brick streets with what organizers call a “dazzling lighting display.”

The lights can be seen from 10th Street to 13th between Jackson and Harney.

Special events and caroling will also be on the menu up through January 5th.

In addition Mayor Jean Stothert is urging Christmas shoppers to visit the Old Market especially tomorrow (Saturday) during Small Business Saturday.

Local store owners plan special holiday events including characters from Disney’s Frozen, a petting zoo, magician, free rides on Ollie the Trolley and pictures with Santa.
