Student-Run Lincoln Non-Profit Donates to 100th Cancer Patient

Students Together Against Cancer (STAC), a fully student-run and founded non-profit organization and registered student organization at the University of Nebraska Lincoln, celebrates its 100th patient donation Monday, November 22nd, 2021. This milestone marks $40,000 donated to cancer patients in the Lincoln community since STAC’s founding in 2012.
STAC provides financial and emotional assistance to cancer patients, allows students to develop skills in their areas of interest, and assists other cancer-related organizations and initiatives. The STAC Grant is a $400 one-time donation in the form of grocery gift cards and/or checks made directly to utility companies for cancer patients receiving treatment in Lincoln who meet the STAC Grant Requirements. STAC Grant applications are available at cancer treatment centers across Lincoln as well as online at teamstac.org.
“Even though we are a small group hosting fundraisers to mostly college students, everything adds up. I’m very glad to be a part of this organization and proud of everything we’ve done to help our neighbors in the Lincoln community.” – Sarah Hoagland, current STAC president
From summer concerts to volleyball tournaments, STAC has done it all.
“Since we are completely student-run, we love to have fun, unique fundraisers, such as our recent cornhole tournament. I have been in STAC for over seven years now, and it is truly a great feeling to know that all of our innovative ideas have led to 100 donations for people in need.” -Jonah Payne, former President and founder of the Lincoln Southwest Highschool STAC branch
While other organizations often fundraise for a cure, STAC’s goal is to help alleviate additional stressors for cancer patients and their families so that they may better focus on beating the disease.
