One D + 3 R's = New Omaha skyline 'on schedule'
The council voted 4-3 today approving Republican Mayor Jean Stothert’s plans to move the downtown library a few blocks away into an Old Market fixer upper.
So that’s what bipartisanship looks like.
One lone Democrat— clearly a bit reluctantly— joining three Republicans on the Omaha City Council to make sure downtown’s multi-million dollar makeover stays on track.
The council voted 4-3 today approving Republican Mayor Jean Stothert’s plans to move the downtown library a few blocks away into an Old Market fixer upper.

Stothert calling the vote a key step allowing the city to "proceed on schedule" with Mutual of Omaha’s plans to build a new corporate headquarters downtown and transform the city’s skyline.

Council President Pete Festersen, the key Democratic swing vote, is often mentioned as a potential candidate for mayor in 2025.
