LINCOLN, Neb. -- A state tournament hero will be taking his talents to Lincoln in the fall.

Cale Jacobsen, who led Ashland-Greenwood to its first boys' basketball state title this past March, announced via Twitter on Saturday that he has committed to Nebraska and head coach Fred Hoiberg as a preferred walk-on.

Jacobsen had scholarship offers from Division I schools St. Thomas and North Dakota State, in addition to a number of D-II offers.

A 6'4" guard who also played quarterback for the Bluejays football squad before suffering an injury that kept him out of multiple sports seasons, Jacobsen was a four-year starter for Ashland-Greenwood.

He notched 1,470 points, 544 rebounds, 340 assists and 261 steals in his career. He missed all but one game as a junior due to injury, but came back with a bang in his final campaign.

He scored a Class C-1 single-game record 43 points in the Bluejays' state semifinal game against Kearney Catholic and assisted Evan Shepard's game-winning three-pointer in the title game against defending three-time champion Auburn.

He averaged 17.3 points, 6.0 assists and 5.6 rebounds per game in his final season while shooting 67 percent from the field. He shot 66 percent from the field for his entire career with the Bluejays.
