MONTREAL, QC -- A Nebraska native heard his name called in the NHL Entry Draft on Thursday night.

Rutger McGroarty was drafted by the Winnipeg Jets with the 14th overall pick in the draft.

McGroarty is a Lincoln native and played junior hockey in the USHL and in the USA Hockey National Team Development Program.

He finished his USHL career with 27 goals and 25 assists in 55 games.

He is one of seven Nebraska-born hockey players to be drafted into the NHL.

McGroarty is committed to the University of Michigan and is expected to hit the ice in Ann Arbor in the Fall of 2022.
