SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. -- A woman is behind bars after reportedly stealing a vehicle from a test drive.

On Thursday, Scottsbluff Police said they were shown threatening text messages from an unknown number with a reported message that said they needed to talk or they would “start swinging a gun around or blow your head off.”

Officers said the reported victim told them that they suspected the messages came from 51-year-old Tanya Wurm, who they had a protection order against.

The victim also reportedly told police they hugged a friend at a gas station and walked back to their vehicle where they found a note on their windshield that read, “who is the person you were hugging,” with obscenities written on the back.

Police reported checking surveillance video at the gas station and reportedly saw Wurm place the note on the windshield.

Officers said Wurm had not yet been located when police received a call from Steve’s Auto Sales in Scottsbluff to report a stolen vehicle.

Steve's Auto employees told police that Wurm, identified by her driver's license, requested to test drive a vehicle valued at $2,700. Employees told police they allowed Wurm to have 20 minutes with the vehicle and to take it around the block a few times. Employees then reported the vehicle as stolen when Wurm had not returned several minutes later.

Police reported finding the vehicle outside of Big Bat’s gas station in Scottsbluff and contacted Wurm inside.

SPD arrested Wurm and reported finding the vehicle keys in her pocket as well as six knives. One knife was allegedly located inside her waistband and measured to almost five inches.

Officers stated that Wurm denied the protection violation and stealing the vehicle.

Wurm was charged with violation of a protection order, carrying a concealed weapon, and motor vehicle theft.
