Days after the brutal Friday attack on Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband, an attack which according to authorities was actually targeting the Speaker who was not at her San Francisco home at the time, anti-Pelosi political ads hitting both Pelosi and Democratic Congressional hopeful Tony Vargas continue to pour into Omaha area homes.

NCN has noted one specific ad still running late Monday, paid for by the Congressional Leadership Fund, an arm of the Republican Party which is backing GOP Congressman Don Bacon’s reelection.

The ad (view it above) begins: “Nancy Pelosi has big plans for America but first she needs allies like liberal Tony Vargas.” The closing line: “Liberal Tony Vargas, if he wins so does Pelosi.”

Following the attack on Paul Pelosi, 82, Bacon, who is in a toss-up race against Vargas, tweeted, “We pray for a speedy recovery for Mr. Pelosi, and want the violent criminal held accountable and put behind bars.”

News Channel Nebraska then asked the Bacon campaign if in light of the attack Congressman Bacon would refrain from using the Speaker’s name “either on the stump or in ads and would he like to see her name removed from any ads by outside groups supporting the Congressman.”

Midday Monday a spokesperson for the Bacon campaign told NCN by email, “We are only running positive ads. Will Vargas pull his negative attack ads?"

That led to the following email exchange:

NCN’s Joe Jordan: Understanding that Congressman Bacon cannot force any outside groups to change their message, would he like to see Speaker Pelosi's name removed from any ads by those outside groups?

Bacon Spokesperson: I gave you our response.

Pelosi, often a target of Republican political attack ads, was in Washington D.C. at the time of the attack on her husband, which found the suspect, David DePape, 42, reportedly armed with a hammer, multiple zip ties and duct tape asking Mr. Pelosi, “Where’s Nancy” as he planned to break her kneecaps.

On Monday, DePape was charged in federal court with assault on a family member of a U.S. official and attempted kidnapping.

Another Nebraskan on Capitol Hill, Sen. Ben Sasse who is looking to be the next President of the University of Florida, possibly by the end of the year, is raising more concerns about the attack.

Sasse tweeting on Friday, “Every single American needs to be lowering the temperature. This is increasingly obvious: Disturbed individuals easily succumb to conspiracy theories and rage — the consequences are bloody and un-American.”
