LINCOLN, Neb. -- A football coach with extensive ties to Nebraska is getting a contract extension.

According to ESPN, Tim Albin has been given a two-year contract extension, making his deal good through the 2026 season.

Albin spent 20 of his now 34 seasons coaching as an assistant under former Nebraska coach Frank Solich. He worked four seasons under Solich with the Huskers, including three as a graduate assistant and one as an assistant coach.

He then spent 16 seasons with Solich at Ohio, taking over as the head coach after the former Husker fullback stepped aside in 2021.

Albin is 13-13 in two seasons in Athens. In his second season leading the Bobcats, he guided the team to seven straight wins to help the team reach the MAC championship game.

Ohio reached the 2022 Barstool Sports Arizona Bowl, where Albin and the Bobcats beat another team helmed by a former Husker assistant -- Craig Bohl's Wyoming Cowboys.

Prior to his time in Lincoln, Albin was not unfamiliar with the Cornhusker State. He coached four seasons at his alma mater Northwestern Oklahoma State, including two as the head coach, when the Rangers played Peru State College.

Ohio opens up the 2023 season at San Diego State on Aug. 26.
