OMAHA, Neb.  - Police in downtown Omaha were kept busy Wednesday afternoon.

The University of Nebraska Medical Center was advising emergency victims to use another entry point after police responded to an incident Wednesday afternoon.

Omaha PD was called to the area outside the emergency department at UNMC, and the public was advised to avoid the area of 44th Street and Dewey Avenue. Emergency care was still being provided, though hospital authorities advised using another entrance.

The situation was resolved as of approximately 4:20 p.m., according to UNMC officials, and operations have returned to normal.

Roughly two hours earlier, a 16-year-old shooting victim reportedly walked into UNMC. She arrived at the hospital in critical condition but is expected to survive.

Omaha Police say that victim was related to a shooting event that occurred near 13th and Pacific Streets.

OPD said they had arrested three boys for numerous charges after the shooting and ensuing pursuit Wednesday afternoon.

Following the shooting, officers say, a brown Kia SUV left the area. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the Kia, but the driver refused to stop, according to police accounts.

Officers say the vehicle continued to flee, and struck a vehicle near 24th and Lake Street. The four occupants reportedly bailed near 34th and Lafayette. Officers quickly took three of the occupants into custody and recovered a handgun. The fourth suspect was not located.

Investigators interviewed all three suspects and booked them at Douglas County Youth Center. The suspects were 14, 15 and 17 years old.
