Lincoln East came one run from making history.
The school's American Legion team, Carpet Land, fell to a team from League City, Texas in the championship of the American Legion World Series, 1-0.
It was Chase Bourgeois who got the Lone Star State on the board in the first inning after grounding out to second base, allowing Keyler Thompson to score.
The rest of the way was a pitchers' duel.
Carter Mick was the losing pitcher, going six innings and allowing six hits while walking one batter. He struck out three.
The last and only time a team from Nebraska won the crown was when an Omaha team claimed the title 84 years ago in 1939.
