LINCOLN, Neb. — Community leaders across Nebraska's 1st Congressional District are calling for more quality housing options, according to their Congressman.

While touring District 1 this summer, U.S. Rep. Mike Flood says affordable housing is at top of every community's priority list.

"Inflation is hitting Nebraska families really hard," Flood said. "It also is impacting our housing. People cannot afford quality housing and as a result we need to make sure our programs are tailored to try and make sure people have a safe place to live, and to get a job, and grow their family."

Flood said thousands of jobs across the district are unfilled and that more affordable housing can help solve that problem.

"We have 2,000 more job open in Columbus without enough people to fill them." Flood said. "I'm really focused on how affordable housing fits into that and what we can be doing in Congress to make it easier to run and start a business."

The U.S. House of Representatives will reconvene in mid September, and Flood said he remains focused on cutting government spending and prioritizing national security.
