Mom struggles as bail is set for dad accused of shooting, killing son
An Omaha man, a convicted felon, accused of shooting and killing his son was in court for the first time today, his bond set at $750,000.
While prosecutors believe the killing was an accident, the man is facing years in prison.

Leaving court, sometimes in tears, the mother of a 10-year-old boy wonders what’s next. Her husband…
Judge: “Will McDonald, charged with manslaughter.”
… her dead son's dad is accused of shooting and killing the boy Thanksgiving night.
According to prosecutors, McDonald heard a car alarm go off, went outside with a gun and shot the boy.
In court today he started to talk.
Will McDonald, manslaughter suspect: “Can I say something?”
Judge: “Just a second.”
But never did.
Jesse Heard: “We’re here in support of Will. He’s not a monster. He made a mistake. We have to support our brother we still have to be there for him.”
Don Kleine, Douglas County Attorney (R): “He has to be held accountable. Obviously, I’m sure he didn't mean to shoot his son but the fact that he fired a gun at somebody who's just walking, or coming up towards him without being threatened in any manner is not OK.”
Jesse Heard: “We're burying a child, a baby. And at the same time we have to love and support our brother. We still have to be there for him. This is crushing him.”
McDonald is being held on $750,000 bond, needs $75,000 to get out. His next court date is January 9. Along with manslaughter, he also faces two gun charges and the possibility of life in prison.
