OMAHA, NEB - In less than a week, the Omaha Supernovas, and the Pro Volleyball Federation, will kick off their inaugural season.

On Wednesday afternoon, Head Coach Shelton Collier, and select players, met with the media to give an outlook on what fans can expect in year one.

“These players have a dream and I’m helping them have a dream,” It’s just amazing at this time of their life, they get an opportunity to play here in the United States.”

Setter Natalia Valentin-Anderson is a Puerto Rican born player, and a former olympian, whose collegiate career took place at Florida International. She met her husband, an Omaha native, at FIU, and has since returned to Omaha. Now, she’ll play professionally - she compared playing at CHI to playing overseas.

“It’s a great atmosphere, I can see it already,” Valentin-Anderson said. “Internationally, this is the kind of arena you would play in, so it reminds me of that.. That just tells you how big it is and how awesome it’s going to be.”

Valentin-Anderson also says there’s a buzz around Omaha about the Supernovas. One that’s rubbed off on some of her family, who will get to see her play on one of the biggest stages.

“I think there’s a lot of people that know about it and are excited about it,” Valentin-Anderson said. “I also have a lot of family members who have never seen me play, so they’re very excited to come to the first match, they keep telling everyone that they know about the Supernovas. It’s going to be great.”

The team was given a test run of pregame festivities on Tuesday night, ahead of the season opener next week. For Jess Lansman and Tori Dixon, it began to set in that the season is near, while also getting them even more excited for the year.

“I think it finally sunk in last night that this is really happening,” Lansmann said. “I’m just getting so excited for next week.”

“I’ve been in this arena before, we qualified for 2016 olympics here a while ago, but it’s completely different,” Dixon said. “With the court, the decals, there’s going to be a cool light show, it was really cool to come in here and see all that.”

As far as it goes with sizing up the competition, Coach Collier knows what he’s up against.

“Every team in the league thinks they’re going to be the one standing at the end,” Collier said. “People go ‘Oh, Omaha’ got a lot of good players’, each team in the league has a lot of good players, a lot of former national league players, former All-American’s, and they’re talking about being the ones standing at the end, winning a million dollars, but so are we.”

The Supernovas kick off their season on Wednesday, Jan. 24, hosting Atlanta.
