LINCOLN - State Sen. Julie Slama announced Thursday she will not be seeking re-election to the state Legislature.

In a press release she said serving southeast Nebraska has been the honor of a lifetime, but she is beginning a new chapter as an attorney in the private sector.

Slama lists what she calls “historic victories” including federal support for the Peru levee repair, legislation supporting $15 million for the Falls City electrical upgrade, expanded degree offerings at Peru State College, Constitutional Carry and Voter ID.

Her term will expire in January of 2025.

A Nebraska Examiner article said Slama may have aspirations for higher political office, but did not mention that in her statement. The article says she is the only state lawmaker that is not term-limited to not file for re-election.

Slama was appointed in 2019 and won election in 2020.
