Some state lawmakers are calling for one of their own to resign.

Hastings State Sen. Steve Halloran is under fire today, accused of verbally abusing fellow State Sen. Machaela Cavanaugh during last night’s floor debate over obscene books in school libraries.

"Stop staring at me he said”, conservative Sen. Steve Halloran reading sexually graphic excerpts from a book about rape.

While blasting the book’s apparent availability in Nebraska school libraries he inserted the name of another lawmaker, a Democrat.

Sen. Halloran: “I kneeled before him, Sen. Cavanaugh.”

Sen. Machaela Cavanaugh tweeting that Halloran’s word were “gross, disrespectful, and beneath the Nebraska Unicameral.”

Republican State Sen. Julie Slama tweeting that, “Halloran should resign for this.”

Halloran insisting in a text that he was addressing Senator John Cavanaugh, Machaela’s brother.

In any event, calls for Halloran’s resignation are continuing.
