FAIRBURY, Neb. -- Lily Davis’ road to the Division I diving level is not a common expedition.

Davis is heading to South Dakota State for diving but she started as a gymnast.

She tried out for the dive team freshman year, and the rest is history.

Because the diving team is a co-op, her and her teammates would drive 30 minutes to Beatrice, five days a week, to train.

Davis said the commute was hard on some days but was worth it.

“It’s definitely a dream come true, like it doesn’t really feel real yet," Davis said. "I am very excited. It took a lot of hard work to get here so I’m very proud of myself. I’m just so excited. I’m so excited to get there.”

She credits her coaches for where she is at because of their supportiveness during the long drives.

Davis joins Blake Starr as the second signee for college sports this week at Fairbury High School.
