Investigation launched after man hit by semi south of Columbus
COLUMBUS, Neb. — Platte County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a man was struck by a semi on the south edge of Columbus on Friday morning.
According to authorities, around 10:25 a.m. on Friday, officers responded to an accident between a vehicle and pedestrian on Highway 81, just south of the Loup River Bridge.
After an initial investigation, a man, identified as Austin Peace, 29, from Osceola stepped into the northbound lanes of Highway 81 in front of a semi.
The driver of the semi saw Peace but was unable to move out of the way.
Columbus Rescue responded and transported Peace to a hospital in Columbus before he was transferred to Lincoln with possible internal injuries.
Platte County Sheriff’s Office has not received an update on Peace’s condition.
Seatbelts were in use and alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
Deputies said the semi received around $1,000 worth of damages.
