KEARNEY, Neb. -- Marco Trevino has been named the 10th head coach of the Tri-City Storm.

Trevino takes over for Mark Abalan, who the franchise parted ways with after 24 games.

""I'd like to thank our ownership group for this opportunity. I also want to express a tremendous amount of gratitude to my family for allowing me to pursue my coaching dreams away from home," said Trevino.

Serving in his second season as an assistant with the organization. He has more than 12 years of coaching experience, bouncing around the Great Lakes region working with the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite, Detroit Victory Honda, and Detroit Little Caesars organizations.

"Our organization is proud to elevate Marco Trevino to the role of head coach," said General Manager Jason Koehler. "Coach Trevino has a solid grasp of our league and how to communicate with and develop young players."

Trevino also spent time scouting and working with personnel matters for Tri-City before moving into his coaching role.

"After years of working with our club in a scouting and coaching role, Coach Trevino understands the day-to-day expectations of our ownership," said Koehler.

The Storm are 11-10-2-1 and currently fifth in the Western Conference standings with 25 points.

"We have an awesome group in the dressing room, and I look forward to continuing the season with a great group of players," Trevino said.

He boasts a playing career in the United States Hockey League, skating for the Sioux City Musketeers and the Waterloo Blackhawks from 2001-2004.
