Lady Raiders Fall, Red Raiders Rally to Win at Chase County
IMPERIAL – The Sidney girls’ basketball team certainly felt cursed on Friday the 13th, as the Lady Raiders labored against Chase County to suffer their first loss of the season 50-43. Sidney, who trailed for the majority of the contest, struggled on the boards and from the free throw line, The Lady Raiders made just one of nine free shots in the first half and ended the game at a paltry 7 of 22 from the line.
Trailing 26-19 at the half, the Lady Raiders bolted from the gate in the third quarter with a 12-0 run to take a 31-26 lead with 3:12 remaining in the period. The Longhorns recovered to score the final eight points in the quarter to regain the lead 34-31 heading into the final stanza.
Sidney had three players score in double-figures led by Kierra Schrader’s 16 points. Carli Black added 11 points while Kayla Westby chipped in 10 points. The Lady Longhorns were led by Olivia Spady’s 12 points. Karlie Anderson and Landree McNair each scored 11 points.
Landon Riddle opened the game for the Red Raiders with a three pointer, and Keian Kaiser scored 10 first quarter points, but it took a Red Raider rally in the fourth quarter for Sidney to remain unbeaten on the season with a 55-43 road win at Chase County.
Chase County hit three triples in the opening period to take a 15-13 lead after the first eight minutes. The Longhorns maintained that advantage going into intermission with a 26-24 lead. The Longhorns increased their lead after intermission to 35-32, as both teams scored in single digits in the third.
Sidney opened the final period with an 8-0 run to take the lead 40-35, a lead that the Red Raiders would not surrender. Keian Kaiser scored 10 in the fourth while Reid Fiscus added eight points to complete the Sidney comeback.
Keian Kaiser finished with a game-high 24 points. Alek Doty added 12 points while Reid Fiscus finished with eight points. Chase County was led by Ben Skeels, who finished with 14 points.
Sidney returns to the court Saturday afternoon when they entertain the Yuma Outlaws at the Cabela’s Athletic Facility.
