NEBRASKA CITY – Husker Radio Analyst Damon Benning told his Big Red Buzz audience Friday that eventually reality wins.

It wins in terms of limiting the number of seasons for players in the game of football, no matter how many junior college years are discounted. It wins in economic theory of supply and demand with 2,700 FBS scholarship transfers risking it in the NCAA portal. It has its say in relationships and recruiting.

Benning said he expects Nebraska to use the portal as a tool to supplement its roster and contends that the Huskers are counting themselves among development programs. Offensive Coordinator Dana Holgorsen said the team’s last nine practices have been developmental.

He said Coach Rhule is building his staff with coaches who can game plan on the fly, like defensive coordinator John Butler.

Benning said Nebraska is developing young players but is not conceding the Pinstripe Bowl against 7-5 Boston College.
