PLEASANTON, Neb. — Authorities say the victim of the Christmas Day fatal crash in rural Buffalo County was a star athlete at Ravenna High School.

The Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office identified 17-year-old Gavin Reisbeck as the driver and victim on Friday. The accident happened around 8:40 Wednesday night near the intersection of Grand Island Road and Cherry Road, which is about seven miles southeast of Pleasanton. The Sheriff’s Office says Reisbeck was driving a pickup when it left the road, rolled and struck a power pole. The crash ejected him from the truck and he died at the scene. Emergency personnel transported three passengers, each 15 years old, to local hospitals.

The Sheriff’s Office did not name the other injured teens but said they were each from the Ravenna area.

Reisbeck was a junior at Ravenna and stood out as an athlete. He started at quarterback in the fall and guided the Bluejays to a 6-2 record. He led the team in yards and touchdowns. Through three games on the basketball court this winter, Reisbeck averaged 15 points and 7 rebounds per game. He also qualified for the state golf tournament as a sophomore.

The Buffalo County Attorney’s Office has ordered an autopsy.
