HASTINGS, Neb. – The city of Hastings is finalizing its preparations to transition to a new city clerk next week.

Tyler Ficken returns to Hastings after serving as the Fremont City Clerk since 2015. Before that, he was the Junction City, KS City Clerk for the previous seven years.

Ficken is a Hastings native and graduated from Hastings Senior High in 2001.

Ficken holds an undergraduate degree in political science from Wayne State College, and master’s degree in public administration from Kansas State University.

He will replace current city clerk Kim Jacobitz, who is retiring after working for the city of Hastings since 2005. She has been the Hastings City Clerk since 2014.

City Clerk duties include record keeping and licensing, as well as working with City Council members and other city staff members overseeing meeting management.

“If you can help other folks out and help them do their job well, my feeling is they return that favor and help you do your job well too,” said Ficken. “If everybody’s doing their job well, then the community is well served.”

The Hastings City Council voted 8-0 in favor during their Dec. 16 meeting to approve the appointment of Tyler Ficken to be Hastings City Clerk.

Ficken has been working with Jacobitz to ease into the new role, and his first day as city clerk will be Sat. Jan. 4.
