Fort Morgan police arrest violent parolee wanted for assault and kidnapping

FORT MORGAN, Colo. — A known violent parolee was taken into custody Thursday night in Fort Morgan following a coordinated law enforcement effort involving the Fort Morgan Police Department, the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, and K9 Dobby.
According to a press release from Fort Morgan Police, officers surrounded a property at approximately 10:25 p.m. on March 20 after receiving information on the location of 29-year-old Sergio Martinez, who was wanted on charges of second-degree assault and kidnapping stemming from an incident the previous weekend.
Martinez, a Fort Morgan resident, has a lengthy history of violent offenses dating back to a 2013 robbery for which he was adjudicated as an adult and sentenced to two years in the Department of Corrections. In 2016, he was arrested by Fort Morgan Police on charges including kidnapping and assault, which were later reduced to misdemeanor assault. He was sentenced to probation but failed to comply and was arrested again in Aurora later that year.
While serving a sentence in the Department of Corrections in 2017, Martinez was charged with attempted first-degree murder. He later pleaded guilty to second-degree assault and was sentenced to 10 years, serving seven before being released with three years of mandatory parole.
On Thursday, Fort Morgan officers deployed a drone and worked with K9 Dobby to locate Martinez. Authorities said he was taken into custody without incident.
“We would like to thank the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in getting this dangerous criminal off the streets of Fort Morgan,” the department stated.
