Closing nearly 30 years of medical service
SIDNEY -- In nearly three decades, Debbie Sweetser has worked a variety of jobs as an employee of Sidney Regional Medical Center.
She officially ends the journey on Wednesday, April 2.
A celebration was held at The Shelter House Sunday afternoon, March 30. The celebration drew family, friends and co-workers to wish her well in her next stage of life. Among the homemade cupcakes and mints were the smiles and hugs. Sweetser also took the time to share some of her story. It is a story of a woman who enjoys helping and interacting with people.
"First I was a CNA at the nursing home. Then there was a chance to go up to the hospital and work in the baby nursery. That's where I worked for a while. And then babies started moving in with their parents, then I decided to just work the floor," she said.
The hospital then became more computerized, and Sweetser followed along.
"Then they had us learn how to do the computers, and work the desk, and admitting people, and that's where I ended up staying," she said.
She completes her career working in the Emergency Department. She said the nursery was one of her favorite assignments. Her future "duties" will include traveling, her garden, and her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
