SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. — The National Weather Service in Cheyenne has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for western Scotts Bluff County, southwestern Sioux County and parts of eastern Goshen County as a dangerous storm continues moving east Friday night.

At 9:11 p.m. MDT, radar indicated a severe thunderstorm near Lyman, about 11 miles southeast of Torrington, moving east at 35 mph. The storm is capable of producing golf ball-sized hail and wind gusts up to 60 mph.

Communities in the path include Scottsbluff, Gering, Mitchell, Terrytown, Morrill, and several rural areas such as Henry, Huntley, Stegall, and Southern Hills Estates. Key landmarks like Scotts Bluff National Monument, Hubbard Hill, Scotts Bluff County Fairgrounds, and the Scottsbluff Airport are also included in the warning.

The National Weather Service warns that large hail can damage vehicles, roofs, siding and windows. High winds may knock down trees and power lines. Residents are urged to seek shelter in a sturdy building and stay away from windows.

The warning remains in effect until 10 p.m. MDT.
