River Point Creative District to transform Norfolk intersections into art

NORFOLK, Neb. — The Norfolk City Council has authorized an agreement for River Point Creative District to paint murals on the crosswalks at the intersections of Third Street and Norfolk Avenue. This agreement will give Downtown Norfolk a vibrant makeover this summer.
The initiative aims to blend arts and economic development, enhancing the community's appeal to residents, visitors, and investors. The RPCD is committed to maintaining the murals, planning quarterly washes and annual repainting. The estimated cost for each mural is $1,000, covering supplies, paint, and a $500 stipend for the selected artist.
The creation schedule is strategically planned for Sundays to minimize disruption, contingent on dry weather and temperatures above 50 degrees Fahrenheit. A half-block section of 3rd Street near the crosswalk will be closed for approximately 12 hours on each paint day.
The painting process will begin at 6:00 AM with site preparation, followed by base coat application at 7:00 AM. Stencils will be laid out by 10:00 AM, and the artist will lead volunteers in painting from 11:00 AM, with barricades removed by 7:00 PM after a four-hour curing period.
