Pierce, Neb. – Zion Lutheran School, a cornerstone of the Pierce community, has been demolished after 110 years of educating students. The school, established in 1915, has seen generations pass through its doors.

The decision to demolish the building came as the structure no longer met current city codes. To replace it, Zion Lutheran School and its congregation launched a capital campaign called "Now is the Time," raising approximately $6 million for a state-of-the-art facility.

The new school addresses the need for updated appliances, larger spaces, and increased enrollment opportunities. It features modern amenities, including more bathrooms, enhanced security measures, additional classrooms, and a library.

According to Zion Lutheran School Principal and Administrator David Beikmann, the demolition site will be converted into green space. "It is planning to be green space right now because the new school building was built on the playground. So, we need that green space for the kids to play at recess," Beikmann said.
