Gering edges North Platte to win team title at North Platte girls wrestling invitational
NORTH PLATTE, Neb. - Gering captured the team championship Saturday at the North Platte Girls Wrestling Invitational, finishing with 188 points to edge host North Platte, which placed second with 183.
Southwest placed third with 155 points, followed by McCook with 124 and Crete with 114. Sidney finished sixth in the 16-team field with 71 points.
Southwest’s Capri Sayer won the 100-pound division with a fall over Gering’s Rileigh Dane, while North Platte’s Prudence Werkmeister claimed the title at 105 pounds. Cozad’s Abby Negley earned first place at 110, and Gering added another championship at 115 behind Autumn Hahn.
North Platte picked up individual wins from Khloe Haneborg at 125 and Kindy Sproat at 140, while Gering’s Meredith Zlomke won the 130-pound title. Additional champions included Kaaliyah Smith of Gering at 135, Andrea Saravia of Cozad at 145, Alexis Steinbeck of McCook at 155, Mattee Zutavern of Sandhills/Thedford at 170, Addison Arvdal of Sutherland at 190, and Madelyn Tryon of Southwest at 235.
Sidney earned several podium finishes, led by Rene Grumbianin, who placed second at 130 pounds, and Makena Perez, who finished second at 140. Izabella Liges placed third at 135, while Ravyn Lee finished fifth at 110. Samira Arguello added a sixth-place finish at 125, and Monro Stewart placed sixth at 170.
