Eagles notes: Three-Pointers the Difference for MBB Against Orediggers
GOLDEN, Colo. – Chadron State kept pace with defending league champions Colorado School of Mines for 25 minutes, but the three-point line loomed large in helping the Orediggers to an eventual 74-60 win over the Eagles on Thursday night in Golden, Colorado.
Mines (7-9, 3-2 RMAC) went 14-for-38 from the three-point line, including a career-high nine makes from freshman guard Shelton Henton, while the Eagles (2-11, 0-5 RMAC) were 5-for-21 overall from deep and just 2-for-13 in the second half.
Jadon Cool led Eagle scorers with 14 points while Luka Djurovic (11), Blessing Adesipe (10) and Mack Keighran (10) also finished in double digits. Keighran shot a perfect 5-for-5 from the field.
Isaiah Randolph stuffed the stat sheet as well, tallying eight points, six rebounds and team-highs of four assists and three steals. Randolph and Djurovic each shot 4 of 7 from the field.
The Eagles outshot Mines overall, making 50 percent of their field goals in the first half and 44.6 percent for the game compared to 41.8 percent by the hosts. CSC's touch disappeared down the stretch in key areas, however, as the Eagles dropped to 15 percent from beyond the arc (2-13) and 17 percent (1-6) from the free-throw line after halftime.
Chadron State stayed within striking distance of the Orediggers despite a career night from Henton, who made eight three-pointers in the first half. The Eagles worked in transition, converting turnovers into fastbreak layups from Cool, Keighran and Randolph, followed by a three-pointer from Adesipe to take an 18-16 lead.
The Eagles led by as many as four – 22-18 – after a putback from Randolph, but two more threes from Henton turned a 26-23 Eagles lead into a 29-26 Oredigger lead, and Henton's eighth three gave Mines a 35-31 lead at halftime.
With CSC's shooting percentages dropping in the second half, the Orediggers pushed their lead to double digits at 50-39 with 13 minutes to go, led by as many as 18 with seven minutes left, and led by 10 or more the rest of the way.
Colorado School of Mines also outrebounded the Eagles 41-27. Chadron State did tie a season-low with only seven committed turnovers while forcing 14 by the Orediggers.
Chadron State will travel to Denver and face Regis (1-10, 0-5 RMAC) on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Eagles Fall to Mines Despite Block Party
GOLDEN, Colo. – Chadron State racked up 10 blocks and nine steals defensively, but a big second quarter helped Colorado School of Mines to an 81-55 victory on Thursday night as the Eagles returned from holiday break in Lockridge Arena.
The Orediggers (8-8, 3-2 RMAC) outscored Chadron State (0-10, 0-5 RMAC) 26-6 in the second quarter to take control of the game after the Eagles led early, 13-12. Mines led by 23 at halftime and by as many as 32 late in the third quarter.
Amya Winfrey recorded five blocks and five rebounds in just 15 minutes, tied for the most by one player in an RMAC game this season. Keziah Toran added three blocks while Kenna Wagner and Alex Ridenour added one apiece as the Eagles became only the second RMAC team with double-digit blocks in a game in 2025-26.
Offensively, Audrey Quintana led Chadron State with 14 points and seven rebounds while Kenna Wagner chipped in 12, going 6-for-7 from the free-throw line. Quintana and Dreanna Jackson had two three-pointers apiece. Jackson finished with eight points.
Evelyn Old Coyote had a team-high five assists along with four rebounds. Quintana, Wagner, Ella Moser and Teryn Stokes (playing for the first time since November) all had two steals apiece among CSC's nine, the second-most by the Eagles in a game this season.
Colorado School of Mines shot 47.7 percent from the field, 40 percent (10-25) from three and 69.2 percent (9-13) from the line. Emma Sixta (22 points) and Sofia Baldessari (20 points) led the Oredigger attack.
The Eagles shot 34 percent from the field, 25 percent (5-20) from deep and 80 percent (16-20) at the free throw line, with 13 of those makes coming in the second half. Chadron State outscored Colorado School of Mines 14-9 in the fourth and final period and outrebounded the Orediggers 39-32 for the game.
Mines jumped out to a 7-0 lead, but Chadron State answered immediately. Quintana drained a three-pointer and a jumper before Dreanna Jackson put in another triple to give CSC an 8-7 lead. In between, Winfrey came up with blocks on three consecutive Oredigger possessions.
Chadron State had its last lead at 13-12 after an old fashioned three-point play by Keziah Toran. But Mines would outscore the Eagles 32-9 over the rest of the first half and kept the lead over 20 points for the entire second half.

Women's Wrestling Unbeaten Across CSC Duals
CHADRON, Neb. – Chadron State women's wrestling went unbeaten across three duals and clinched a top three RMAC finish by toppling two conference opponents during the Chadron State duals in the Chicoine Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles defeated Adams State 30-16, Hastings College 26-19 and Texas Woman's 26-20 across Saturday's action. With the TWU dual hanging in the balance at heavyweight, Esther Peters came back from 4-0 down with a four-point near fall with just over 30 seconds remaining to seal the final match.
The three wins improve CSC's overall dual record in 2025-26 to 4-3, while the wins over Adams and TWU make the Eagles 2-0 in the RMAC with only duals against conference frontrunners Simon Fraser (January 17) and Colorado Mesa (February 7) remaining.
Brianna Vollendroff (103 pounds), Rylee Balcazar (110 pounds) and Peters (207 pounds) were all 3-0 on the day to lead the Eagle effort. Ana Rojas-Zamora (2-1, 124 pounds), Piper Cadden (2-1, 131 pounds) and Rowyn Wiltgen (1-2, 160 pounds) also wrestled in all three duals for Chadron State.
The Eagles split duties among four weights – 117 pounds (Adrianna Lopez 1-1, Shania Wear 1-0), 138 pounds (Meredith Nash 2-0, Nevaeh Leonard 0-1), 145 pounds (Desza Munson 0-2, Hattie Baldwin 0-1) and 180 pounds (Sicily Frates 0-2, Cosette Desrosiers 1-0).
Starting the day against Adams State, the Eagles won 6 of 9 contested bouts before tacking on five points with a forfeit win at heavyweight. Vollendroff and Balcazar started things with 10-0 tech fall wins. Adams won at 117 and took an 8-2 lead at 124, but Rojas-Zamora scored six points to tie the score and eventually take an 8-8 decision win by being the most recent to score.
That decision put CSC up 12-5, and tech fall wins by Piper Cadden at 131 and Meredith Nash at 138 put the Eagles firmly in control, 20-6. The teams split points 10-10 the rest of the way, highlighted by a Rowyn Wiltgen pin in 2:25 at 160 pounds.
The Hastings College dual saw several new Eagles take the mat. The Eagles took a commanding 18-1 lead after four bouts courtesy of pins from Vollendroff and Shania Wear and techs by Balcazar and Rojas-Zamora.
The Broncos climbed back into the dual by winning the next four matches, cutting it to 19-18, but Chadron State held its nerve, getting a big 11-2 decision win by Cosette Desrosiers at 180 pounds before Peters closed things out with a 10-0 tech fall.
In CSC's final dual of the day, CSC took a 15-0 lead off forfeits and led 23-5 after six matches, with Piper Cadden and Meredith Nash tallying key 10-point victories to score four points apiece. The Pioneers came storming back, however, using two pins and a tech to climb within 23-19 and opening the door for Texas Woman's to win the dual if Kitana Leafaatoto could find a way to pin Peters.
The TWU wrestler led 4-0 late in the second period, but Peters used a charging attack to put Leafaatoto on her back for a four-point near fall. The match ended 4-4, and Peters also won by virtue of being the most recent scorer, taking the final margin to 26-20.
The Eagles will return to the mat on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. for the all-day Chadron State Women's Open.
Eagles Win Battle of Last Two Champs, Defeat Mines
CHADRON, Neb. – Chadron State men's wrestling led from wire-to-wire and earned a statement win over the defending league champions, as the No. 15-ranked Eagles defeated No. 21 Colorado School of Mines 20-13 in a Friday night dual at the Chicoine Center.
The Eagles (3-1, 1-0 RMAC) won 6 of 10 bouts against the Orediggers (6-2, 1-1 RMAC), who saw a 12-dual RMAC win streak snapped with the loss. With the win, Chadron State avenges one of their two dual losses from last season.
Hunter Jacobsen and Caleb Chaves collected bonus point wins for the Eagles and Mason Villwok (197 pounds) and Eli Reese (heavyweight) sealed the dual with decision victories in the final two bouts of the evening.
The Eagles jumped out to a quick lead. No. 5-ranked Quade Smith took his time against Mines freshman Jake Goodin but earned a takedown to grind out a 4-2 decision win. Chadron State then earned four-pointers from Jacobsen at 133 (15-5 major decision) and No. 8-ranked Chaves at 141 (9-0 major decision).
But the Orediggers won four of the next five matches to trim that 11-0 cushion into just a 14-13 advantage. Mines's Cody Thompson, the No. 2-ranked 149-pounder, scored eight mat points in the final period to put away CSC true freshman Aidan Callahan 13-3 and put the Orediggers on the board with a major decision.
Tayten Gillette earned a significant three points for the home team with a 9-7 win at 165 pounds. Gillette led comfortably – 7-1 – through two periods before a late Mines rally fell short. The Orediggers were victorious at 157, 174 and 184 pounds, with the latter weight filled by Dylan White, normally a 165-pounder who stepped up after Keegan Gehlhausen was scratched.
With the Eagles holding a one-point lead in the dual, the Orediggers sent veteran Wyatt Reisz, ranked No. 17 in the nation at 184 pounds, up a class to 197 to battle No. 19-ranked CSC sophomore Mason Villwok in what felt like the most significant match of the dual. After a scoreless first period, Villwok struck for a takedown late in the second and added another with just seconds left in the match to button up an 8-1 decision win and give the Eagles a four-point lead heading into the heavyweight bout.
Eli Reese, a Gannon transfer, just needed to avoid a pin against No. 19-ranked Laith Ibrahim to seal the dual for Chadron State. On three separate occasions, Ibrahim caught hold of Reese's foot and forced the CSC heavyweight to hop around on one leg for an extended period of time, but all three times Reese was able to wriggle out and avoid the takedown.
Reese turned the tables with two takedowns of his own to build a 7-3 lead, and although Ibrahim got three points back in the final seconds, Reese emerged with a signature win to leave no doubt about the Eagles' seven-point victory, which ended up being an almost identical margin to Mines's win over CSC a season ago (21-13).
With Mines's loss, Chadron State and Colorado Mesa are tied atop the RMAC standings at 1-0. Saturday's dual was the first of four straight at home for CSC, with the Eagles next taking the mat on January 18 against New Mexico Highlands.
