COLUMBUS, Neb. — In a moving tribute to their unwavering dedication, the Columbus Police Department recently hosted a recognition ceremony, celebrating officers for both extraordinary acts of heroism and their steadfast commitment to serving the community.

"This marks a first for the Columbus Police Department," stated Columbus PD Chief Bret Strecker. "We took this opportunity to honor our newest officers, those who have earned promotions, and those who have demonstrated exemplary service throughout the year, going above and beyond the call of duty."

The ceremony highlighted the Columbus PD's recent achievements, including the addition of one new recruit, the celebration of five well-deserved promotions, and recognition of seven officers for outstanding achievements. Among those honored was Officer Raymond Fuller, who received the prestigious life-saving medal for his heroic rescue of a child during a water incident.

Officer Fuller, with the assistance of the Columbus Fire Department, successfully rescued a child who had become entangled in a fishing line, ensuring the child returned home safe and sound.

Following National Law Enforcement Day on January 9th, Mayor Bulkley underscored the significance of the ceremony as a means of expressing gratitude to officers who consistently put their lives on the line, often in situations the public may not fully comprehend.

"In a small way, this is our chance to say thank you for all that they do," Mayor Bulkley affirmed. "I hope it conveys the strong support they have from the city council and from me personally. It is of utmost importance that we recognize and support the safety and well-being of our community."
