Bravettes & Cadet Boys Continue Their Winning Ways

BATTLE CREEK - The hometown Bravettes and West Point-Beemer boys stayed on the winning path in a Tuesday night split.
The BC girls and Lady Cadets went toe-to-toe in a 1st period that ended knotted at 12 apiece. A big 2nd quarter from bench player Ryder Wehrle helped the Bravettes pull away to a 5-point halftime lead, and they held serve from there, winning 48-37. Wehrle finished the game tied with Jadyn Smutney with the lead at 12 points. Elle Bruning paced West Point-Beemer with 8.
The Cadets avenged their female counterparts in the 2nd half of the doubleheader with a 63-52 victory. WPB jumped to a 7-point 1st period advantage and doubled it up to lead by 14 at the break. Battle Creek fought back gamely in the 2nd half, whittling a 19-point deficit down to 7 with just over 2 minutes to go. But a big 3-pointer from Peyton Penrose took the wind out of the Braves' sails, and the Cadets won their 5th game in a row going away. Penrose topped all scorers with 15, while Ian Schiller chipped in 15. Xander Larson led the way for Battle Creek with 13.
West Point-Beemer (1-12 girls, 9-4 boys) is at Schuyler Thursday, while Battle Creek (7-6 girls, 4-8 boys) head to Lutheran High Northeast that same night.
