SIDNEY – Chrissy Russell is taking a home passion and moving up to a storefront business.

She opened Iris and Palm Company to support others who have a passion for plants.

“It is a houseplant store where I provide plants, education, and care products for house plants,” Russell said Thursday afternoon.

Her love of potted plants started at home, and literally grew as she shared what she learned.

“The idea of a plant store started with her hobby. I have about 40 plants of my own, and I’ve always shared my knowledge with friends and family, shared clippings of my plants. When I came back from my deployment, I decided that I kind of wanted to start doing something that I enjoyed. I decided to take my knowledge of plants and turn it into a company,” she said.

Her services are personal, helping a client best understand and take care of a plant.

“I currently right now I offer plant consultations where I can identify your plant, and give you care tips and a report, I do the prop swap program where people in the community can bring me clippings of theirs, and I will give them clippings of mine. I also have numerous asks for going and plant sitting. So, if you go out of town for an extended period of time, I can come over and water your plants, take care of them,” she said.

She also offers soils and will be offering her own fertilizer blends, root care and sprays for nats.

Iris and Palm Company is open 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.  Iris and Palm Company is located at 1032 Toledo St., Sidney
