The City of Omaha has a new first gentleman.

Mayor Jean Stothert announcing today that she has remarried.

Stothert and Dr. J. Kevin O'Rourke took their wedding vows in a private ceremony on Wednesday.

According to a statement from Stothert, she and O'Rourke met in St. Louis 45 years ago when he was in medical school at St. Louis University and she was a critical care nurse at St. Louis University Hospital. 

O'Rourke is an anesthesiologist, having completed his training at John Hopkins in Baltimore.

Fifteen months ago, Stothert's first husband, Dr. Joe Stothert, shot and killed himself at the family's Omaha home.

"As we both moved around the country with families and careers, we have remained friends," says Stothert. "His friendship has been a great source of strength for me, especially over the last year."

Among other events, O'Rourke accompanied Stothert to her State of the City Address in April.
