We told you a few weeks ago that Omaha’s 45-year-old downtown library was coming down.

Well.  It’s down. Just some dust, rubble and a big hole are all that’s left.

Built in 1977, Dale W. Clark Library, named for a longtime banker, civic leader and Omaha World-Herald board member is gone and making way for a new Mutual of Omaha headquarters.

The tallest building between Chicago and Denver, 44 stories tall, is scheduled to break ground next year; paving the way for even more changes downtown including a $200–300 million streetcar initially connecting the new riverfront park to the University of Nebraska Medical Center complex.

The new downtown library will be just a few blocks from the old one, taking up space in a 100-year-old building, that is taking longer to get in shape than originally expected.

By the way that new Mutual headquarters come with a $600 million price tag.
