One of the state’s top law enforcement officials is denouncing the actions by five Memphis police officers charged with 2nd degree murder in the beating death of Tyre Nichols.

Police video of the beating was released Friday night, with graphic images showing the officers kicking and hitting Nichols with a baton, injuries that sent him to the hospital where he died three days later.

Omaha Police Chief Todd Schmaderer has released a statement saying, “I want to commend the Memphis Police Chief and District Attorney for taking swift, decisive actions regarding the involved officers. Criminal activity by police officers can never be tolerated. Not in Memphis. Not in Omaha. Not anywhere.”
