KEARNEY, Neb. — A Central Nebraska dog rescue is preparing to host a national fundraiser.

K-9 Freekz Rescue in Kearney is an all-volunteer non-profit that places dogs in foster homes until adoption. The group is hosting national organization Jordan’s Way for a three-hour fundraiser on Thursday. K-9 Freekz will tap into Jordan’s Way’s 800,000 followers via a Facebook Live. Donations can be made in-person or online as locals participate in challenges.

“We’ve got mud wrestling going on, the tortilla slap challenge, we’ll have people in kennels that cannot get out until they raise a certain amount of money," co-founder Joni Fitzpatrick said. "But you get to be in there with the dogs, so stay in there for the whole three hours if you want but you gotta make the money.”

Fitzpatrick says K-9 Freekz hopes to raise $50,000, which would be enough to feed all of their foster dogs for a year and spay or neuter 120 dogs.

The event runs from 10:30 to 1:30 on Thursday at the American Legion in Kearney. The live stream will be available on the K-9 Freekz Facebook page.
