SIDNEY -- The Cheyenne County Fair Board Monday settled on the number of mutton bustin' contestants at the 2023 Cheyenne County Rodeo.

The rodeo, with Cervi Championship Rodeo, will include an event for children. The decision Monday addressed how many contestants. According to board discussion, the rodeo can include 12 and as many as 22.

Ken From suggested the board focus on the bigger numbers and draw more people to the event.

"You can have your 10, but why not have 10 more and have all the grandmas and grandpas," he said.

The Fair Board is also trying to confirm if the rodeo can be televised. Part of the answer is the internet speed at the Fair Grounds. Buildings and Grounds Supervisor Tom Payne said Fair Grounds internet speed is 80 Mbps.

Laura Narjes, University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension Educator: 4-H Youth Development, asked the fair board about the Open Class competitions. She said Open Class is not specifically 4-H, and is seeking volunteers who could serve as judges.

"It's not that we don't want to partner. It's just we also are getting spread too thin," Narjes said.
