NORTH PLATTE, Neb. -- Northeast Nebraska was well represented in North Platte at the Class D state golf championships, with Creighton's Gage Burns winning the individual title and Pender bringing home the team crown.

Pender took a comfortable lead on day one and continued its dominance into the final day. The Pendragons finished 11 shots better than defending champion Overton to pick up their first Class D title.

Burns outlasted a pack of contenders, including day one leader Quinton Heineman of Pender. Burns edged Heineman by one stroke, taking the lead on the 15th hole on Wednesday.

Heineman gained a stroke on the final hole, but couldn't overcome a strong final round by Burns.
