NORFOLK, Neb. -- Authorities said they responded to a garage fire Sunday morning in Norfolk.

The Norfolk Fire Division said they were called to a garage fire around 9 a.m. on Sunday in the 400 block of Logan St.

The first arriving crew said they found heavy smoke and fire coming from the attached garage.

Capt. Logan Grothe said they fire had already spread through the attic space into the house, and all residents had evacuated from the home.

NFD said that crews worked quickly to extinguish the fire, and had the fire under control in about 15 to 20 minutes.

Grothe said that the house and garage were both in need of extensive overhaul because of the fire spreading to the attic.

NFD said they stayed on scene for two more hours doing salvage, overhaul and investigations.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

There were no reported injuries to the residents or bystanders, but NFD said a firefighter did get a minor injury and was taken to a local hospital.

NFD said firefighters saved an animal from the fire.

NFD was assisted by Norfolk Police Division, Hadar Fire, NPPD, and Black Hills Energy.
