Three vehicle accident kills one in Omaha

OMAHA, Neb. -- One person died after a three vehicle accident on Tuesday in Omaha.
The Omaha Police Department said officers were sent to 50th St. and NW Radial Highway around 1:45 p.m. on Tuesday for a report of a three vehicle personal injury crash.
Officers said a 2010 Kia Forte was going east and had slowed/stopped to the far right/southern turn lane on NW Radial Hwy before the 50th St. intersection. The Kia reportedly tried to turn left and crossed both eastbound lanes and a northbound lane improperly.
According to authorities, a 2008 Nissan Altima was going east and tried to avoid hitting the Kia. The Altima reportedly did not hit the Kia but ended up crashing east of the intersection instead.
Police said the Kia was still turning when it was hit by a 2000 Ford F-150 pickup that was going east. Four people were reportedly taken to a nearby hospital for their injuries.
OPD said the driver of the Kia was a 78-year-old man from Omaha and he is being treated for chest and back pain. The passenger of the Kia was 76-year-old Melody Stephens, of Omaha, and she reportedly died after arriving at the hospital.
Officials said the driver of the Ford was a 44-year-old man from Omaha and he was uninjured but his passenger was taken to the hospital for arm and shoulder pain. The driver of the Nissan was reportedly a 37-year-old man from Omaha that had arm and leg pain but left the hospital shortly after arriving.
According to authorities, the road was reopened at 5:45 p.m. and the crash is under investigation.
