BRIDGEPORT -- Crossroads Coop decided to be the best in their field. The company even invited a rigorous inspection of how they do business.

"Crossroads Coop as a commercial grain handler wants to be the best it can for its producers and for its community," said Peter G. Lapaseotes.

Lapaseotes said safety is a top priority at Crossroads Coop.

"As a previous owner of a feedlot, I realized that running a leg in a feedlot compared to a commercial facility is a lot different. Not only are they bigger, but under a lot more regulation. Crossroads is proud to serve it customers and to offer good jobs for local people."

On Tuesday, August 15, Crossroads Coop celebrated passing marks after a review in March of 2023. 

"So how it starts is we apply for them to come out and do a walk-through. So they do a walk-through inspection of our whole facility. Then they look at our policies and everything like that, plus our OSHA logs to see where we are with the national average," said Craig Knapp, safety director.

Crossroads Coop joined SHARP (Safety & Health Achievement Recognition Program), which recognizes small businesses who have used OSHA’S On-site Consultation Program services and operate exemplary safety and health programs.  Acceptance of Crossroads' worksites into SHARP and OSHA is an achievement of status that singles out the company among its business peers as a model for worksite safety and health. It can take up to two years to go through the entire process for a single location! 

The final walk through at the Gering and Bridgeport sites was conducted on March 7, 2023. The March walk-through resulted in admittance into the SHARPs organization.
