Nine years in prison given to La Vista man

LA VISTA, Neb. -- A man from La Vista was sentenced to nine years in prison.
Acting U.S. Attorney Susan Lehr said 41-year-old Daniel Misiunas, of La Vista, was sentenced in federal court in Omaha on Friday. He was convicted for travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct. Misiunas will serve 108 months in prison with a five-year term of supervised release after. There is no parole in the federal system. Misiunas will be required to register as a sex offender.
According to court documents, a Douglas County Sheriff’s Office deputy posed undercover as a 13-year-old girl on a mobile social media app on Jan. 12, 2023. Misiunas contacted her on the app and acknowledged her age but agreed to bring her alcohol in exchange for specific sexual acts. Misiunas told her it would be illegal and advised her not to tell anyone.
Officials said the undercover officer agreed to meet the Misiunas in Council Bluffs. Misiunas told the undercover officer he was coming from work in Omaha. Investigators saw him leave work in Nebraska and travel to meet the 13-year-old girl in Council Bluffs on Jan. 26, 2023. Misiunas was arrested when he arrived at the meeting location in Council Bluffs with condoms and alcohol.
Authorities stated that they found child pornography on Misiunas’s phone, and messaging in the app and other apps, providing more evidence of Misiunas’s sexual interest in children and minors. In one exchange on the app, Misiunas sent a photo of a girl, 15- to 19-years-old, exposing her breasts. In another exchange on an app, Misiunas requested a photo of an 11-year-old and received a pornographic photo of a 6- to 11-year-old girl. In an exchange with another app user, Misiunas sent the image of the 6– to 11-year-old girl and then received a 14-second-long video depicting child porn.
This case was investigated by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
