OMAHA, Neb. -- A man from Omaha was sentenced to prison after his conviction for coercion and enticement of a minor.

Acting U.S. Attorney Susan Lehr said 51-year-old Wesley Vavra, of Omaha, was sentenced in federal court in Omaha on Tuesday. He was convicted for attempted coercion and enticement of a minor. Vavra will serve 235 months in prison with a 10-year term of supervised release after. There is no parole in the federal system.

According to court documents, Vavra communicated on an app and through text messages with someone he thought was interested in “open family play dates” from May 2022 to July 2022. The other user was a law enforcement officer working in an undercover (“UC”) capacity pretending to be a father with an 8-year-old child.

Officials said Vavra planned to meet the UC on July 18, 2022, to engage in sexual acts with the supposed father’s 8-year-old child. Vavra was arrested at the meetup location in Omaha. His cell phone was taken and officers found that Vavra was also talking with someone he thought was a 13-year-old girl at the same time. The 13-year-old girl was also a law enforcement officer working as a UC.

This case was investigated by the Omaha FBI's Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force and the Douglas County’s Sheriff’s Office.
