NEBRASKA CITY, Neb - Beatrice basketball began the season 1-0 - collectively. 

The Orangemen and Lady O both picked up wins over the Pioneers of Nebraska City in Thursday night's season opener. 

The Lady O came away with a 66-22 win led by 21 points from freshman Alijah Stabler. Despite trailing 10-6 at the end of the first, the Lady O would end the first half on a 23-1 run, only allowing a free throw make as the only point in the second quarter for the Pioneers. Beatrice went 11-of-28 from three and 8-of-11 at the free throw line in the win. Nebraska City committed a costly 33 turnovers. 

The Orangemen were also victorious, knocking off the Pioneers 63-34. Crew Meints led the charge for Beatrice with 17 points, being one of four Orangemen in double figures. In his first game, Harrison Vetrovsky was one of those four recording 10 points, including back to back threes, with a buzzer beater to end the third quarter.

Both teams return to the O-Zone on Saturday for the home openers taking on Ashland-Greenwood. Tip off for the girls game is set for 1:00 p.m. with the boys to follow.
