NORFOLK, Neb. -- As Christmas season is in full swing, children across the country are expected to receive the trendiest toys of today, but the Elkhorn Valley Museum wants to highlight the toys of the past.

Last month the Toys of Yesteryear Exhibit was opened, showcasing toys from the museum's collection with some pieces going as far back as the 1910s.

Executive Director Libby McKay said that the exhibit brings back old memories for visitors including herself.

"And I think the people who've come to see the exhibit so far have also been like 'oh I remember playing with that,'” McKay said. “So, it's been really great to sort of have that connection with these toys and then we've had kids come through that are like 'oh what's that' and they're really intrigued by some of the pieces."

The exhibit features vintage dolls, interactive components, and even a board game modeled after Norfolk.

Patrons can see a stereoscope which McKay said is the grandfather of 3D technology, as technology now plays a bigger roles in the toys of today.

"You see a lot more tech sort of involved in toys now, naturally, then you would have 100 years ago,” McKay said. “So, I don't think it's necessarily any less imagination-oriented, it's just I think a different use of the imagination that you kind of see evolving."

McKay said the museum plans to work with different care centers to hold displays of the pieces in the exhibit.

Toys of Yesteryear can be seen until Feb. 9.
