Lady Raiders, Red Raiders Sail Past Brush

BRUSH, CO – The Sidney basketball teams breezed to a pair of road wins Saturday at Brush, Colorado. The Lady Raiders held Brush to single digits in each quarter, cruising to their second win on the young season 76-15, while the Red Raiders turned a 26-point halftime lead into a running clock to start the final period for a 71-29 win over the Beetdiggers.
The Lady Raiders used early full-court pressure to force 12 first quarter Brush turnovers to bolt to a 24-5 lead after one period. Sidney scored 39 points in the game off of 35 Beetdigger turnovers while only committing nine turnovers themselves.
Senior Karsyn Leeling paced four Lady Raiders in double-figures, hitting four three-point shots to finish with 22 points. Junior Jordan DeNovellis made six of her seven shots, including two of two from beyond the arc, to total 16 points. Junior Carli Black came off the bench to chip in 14 points while senior Chloe Ahrens went two of three from long range to tally 10 points.
Brush boys got off to a hot start against Sidney but the Red Raiders quickly settled in as six players scored in the first period to take a 20-11 lead. Sophomores Keian Kaiser and Alek Doty each tallied 9 first-half points as the Red Raiders held Brush to just two second quarter points to take a 39-13 advantage into intermission, Sidney stretched the lead to the 40-point mark, 65-25, to initiate the running clock for the final eight minutes.
Alek Doty led the way for the Red Raiders with 18 points while senior Matthew Danch added a career-high 13 points. Keian Kaiser finished with 11 points.
The Lady Raiders and Red Raiders open their home schedule this weekend as they host Chase County on Friday and Bayard on Saturday at the Cabela’s Athletic Facility.
